Alexandra Riley grew up as a single child, in a single parent home. Her father was a scholar, and a Watcher, at least until Al was born, when he quit active Watcher Duty ( He never had a Slayer of his own ) and became a field research agent, and a farmer. She excelled in her studies, eventually went off to college, and blew through her studies in half the time. She got her degree in Anthropological studies from Oxford, and then went on to join the council as a Watcher in Training. She was out on assignment (newly graduated to full Watcher Status), attempting to locate a missing potential ,when the Council building was attacked by the Bringers. Since then, she has been making attempts to reconnect with any remaining council members, and attempting to gather any missing Slayers/potentials since the Sunnydale Hell Mouth situation.
Currently, she's living in a dinky one bedroom apartment in Hope Falls, working part time as a professor of Anthropology at Woodrow Wilson Community College, enjoying the occasional social drink, and sometimes, stretching her legs by hunting down the things that go bump in the night. Sadly, not one of these things lends itself to large sums of cash flowing into her accounts. This is one of the few points in her life that needs some work.
Al is opinionated, and loud. She drinks too much, and blames it on her Celtic heritage. She is quick to anger, but quicker to forgive. She is extremely patient with new students, and Slayers alike, but when her lessons fall on deaf ears, she is unsympathetic as far as the consequences go. She has great respect for art , dance and music and spent a great deal of her childhood taking dance lessons in her free time. She is always eager to learn new things, and challenge old ideals. She enjoys a slightly less than amicable debate, so long as it ends in a willingness to agree to disagree and a good glass of scotch. At times, keeping a heavy secret wears on her, and she may come across as depressed, or moody, but these spells never last too long. Perhaps it is part of her feline heritage, but she can, at times be aloof, lazy and overly cryptic.
